Tech Dive Crew
Our technical training team is comprised of skilled and experienced individuals who excel in their own field of expertise. No one can train divers to do everything, with that we have specialists who focus on their own personal interest in the area they're responsible for.
Our team work and live in a very small community of technical deep diving explorers who's main goal is to train and expose divers to this ever growing style of deep water exploration and advanced scuba industry education.
We provide technical diving in English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish, Thai and Japanese.
James Thornton-Allan
Director Technical Operations
James comes from England but was raised in Canada. James came to Koh Tao after a term of service in England's Royal Marine Commandos and found Koh Tao a great destination to start a new career in his hobby of diving.
James is the Director of Big Blue Tech and Senior Technical Instructor. James is responsible for all activities of Big Blue Tech including expeditions, bookings, training and working with our recreational department to provide technical support and education.

Andrew Cavell
Technical Diving Instructor
Andrew is from England where he worked as a diving instructor and elctrical engineer but left England to get more into the world of technical diving combining his pasison of teaching with the tropics of Thailand.
Andrew is one of technical diving instructors who's main responsibility is the teaching of our technical diving curriculum to new students or those wishing to continue their education. Andrew brings his experience as a diving instructor in england to the team, this diversity of education to the european way of conducting diving add value to the entire team.

Yvonne Fries
Manager Technical Operations
Yvonne is from Germany where she worked in the insurance business and played Squash for her country. Yvonne left Germany many years ago to travel the world and ended up in Koh Tao where she became a diving professional and later got involved with technical diving.
Yvonne is responsible for managing the finances, scheduling and accounts along with all other related activities for Big Blue Tech.

Ash Dunn
Facilities Manager
Ash comes from England where he worked as a Plumber and played Basketball for his country. Ash got into diving quite late but quickly found that recreational diving wasn't for him. Combined with his technical skills and his love for a challenge he found technical diving held the allure and interest to keep him interested.
Ash is a technical diving instructor with his main focus on delivering the support related courses like gas blender, compressor operator and service technician courses. Ash can be found day to day running the dive shop and taking care of all the equipment and compressors.

Panos Iosifoglou
Technical Dive Manager
Panos is from Germany and Greece and speaks 3 languages including Greek, German and English. Panos left europe to go backpacking a few years ago and found himself as a diving professional in short time. Shortly after Panos got involved with Technical and cave diving. When our west coast season started Panos packed up his gear and headed over to Khao Lak to represent us.
Panos responsibility is for the west coast technical diving in the Similan Islands and Khao Lak. He provides logistics, underwater guide, supervision and liaison through our shop in Khao Lak and on our liveaboard the Mv Pawara.

Duncan Tyler
Senior Technical Divemaster
Duncan comes from England where he worked in the restaurant business and found himself frequently traveling. On one of his trips abroad he found Koh Tao and continued to come back over a period of 6 years. Eventually Duncan made the move to become a professional and soon after got involved in technical diving.
Duncan is our head divemaster which means he supervises certified technical diving and makes sure customers who are coming with us just for diving and not training are taken care of and shown the best technical diving Thailand has to offer.

Helen Artal
Technical Divemaster
Helen is from England where she most recently worked on cruise ships. Helen came directly from Australia where she was working as a SSI Instructor and came to Koh Tao to for a more chilled out lifestyle. Helen quickly adapted to the "tech way" of doing things and found she wanted more to diving than looking at fish.
Helen is one of our technical divemasters who is responsible for leading certified technical and rebreather divers during our expeditions or local technical diving.

Thomas Hallstrom
Technical Divemaster
Thomas is from Sweden where he worked as a truck driver. Thomas has diving experience around the world in all conditions from ice diving to tropical diving. After spending a season leading divers in the Similan Islands he left to join Big Blue Tech on their ventures. Thomas speaks Swedish and English.
Thomas is one of our technical divemasters who is responsible for leading certified technical and rebreather divers during our expeditions or local technical diving.

Dean Jenkins
Technical Internship Coordinator
Dean is responsible for the ongoing training and development of our Technical Dive Master Program. Those completing their tech dive master program will work closely with dean for all aspects from physics to water skills.
Dean overseas our entire divemaster development and insures that all student needs are addressed including accommodation, equipment and extra curricular activities.
